Wed. 15th Feb. CHILDREN'S MEET @ FRON LAS, CRYMYCH

Truly a Children's Meet !

A day for mums and dads, guardians, grans and granddads, whether on foot, lead rein or mounted, to hunt together with their children, on this family owned farm of the Davies family.

A gentle walk up through fields leading directly onto the  Preseli's, we are priviliged to offer this as our Children's Meet.

All the children will be able to see the Master send hounds off to find the scent - "draw", before hearing the first hound speak, letting the rest of the pack know. Then the chase begins.

Smaller children will see and hear the hounds hunt the scent, while others will be able to ride with hounds, over the varied terrain the hounds follow, in full view of everyone.

Whips for the day are Emily Hughes and Mathew Coventry, who have been invited to assist the Master, on the day.

Miss Hughes's, antecedents are from Northern Ireland, with family heritage in hunting going back many generations of Celts, particularly Scottish.  Already showing a natural instinct of how to hunt hounds, this may be someone to watch in the future.

Joining the Whips for his second is Master Coventry. Nine years of age, this young man has demonstrated some great riding skills, hunting a selection of pones from his Mothers stables each meet, under the stewardship of both Mum and Gran on foot.

Children will first hear about some of the basic hunting etiquette before a demonstration of hounds hunting and then experience hunting with hounds. The day ending with bangers and beans and presentation of Hunt Certificates.

 INTER HUNT RELAY TEAM

Cothi Bridge - 28th May saw the team come home in 7th place. Disappointing but lots learnt. We had taken our biggest hunt horses anticipating a large ranging course, when the course was more suited for gymkana ponies ! Even so, we had a few stops and Katee riding Penn who had outjumped everything all season on the day, was just not on form. Thanks to Celia riding Alfie the day was saved, although we were still 2 mins behind the winning team. Thanks to everyone for representing the Hunt and in particular to Jane Hall asTeam Coach.
Success though for one team member - Debbie Phillips who picked up a 4th rosette with the Carmarthen who were a team member short on the day.

A synopsis of hunting from August to the New Year........look out for your opportunity to join us, including Xmas Specials :-

Aug. 2010

Life at Kennels has begun to pick up with energies focussed during August to getting hounds fit to hunt and those to be entered this season onto the scent.

The long term investment in this pack is beginning to come to fruition, as this year the old pack plus new entries born last Spring (2009), will total 10 and 1/2 couple.

Three litters have been born this Spring and pups will be entered in 2011 season. You may have seen these young hounds at the local Shows this summer.

Meanwhile, our other 4 legged youngsters have been brought in, some for haltering and others for breaking a

nd meeting hounds. Time spent with them this summer will determine their suitability for the Hunting Field.

Other work continues :- rugs repaired and re-conditioned, saddles reflocked and just general maintainance ensues, with regular debate about the best meets of the last two seasons echoed around stables, in an attempt to influence Master Robert Thomas, on the forthcoming seasons Meets !

DO LET US KNOW WHICH MEETS WERE YOUR FAVOURITES !
